Major Release · October 2026
Xinference 4.0 brings Xavier prefix KV cache sharing to every engine, makes heterogeneous prefill/decode a first-class deployment, and lets you reconfigure a running model without reloading its weights.
Six themes define this major release. Together they target the two most expensive things in model serving: prefill you have already paid for, and downtime you take just to change a setting.
Prefix KV cache sharing used to be vLLM-only. In 4.0 it spans all three engines, so compatible replicas reuse context that has already been computed instead of paying for the same prefill twice.
Prefill and decode no longer have to agree on an engine — or even on a vendor. Pick each role independently and let Xinference’s unified serving interface join them up.
Changing concurrency or context length used to mean unloading the model and pushing tens of gigabytes of weights back across the bus. Opt-in GPU weight caching keeps the weights resident and rebuilds only the engine.
Combine tensor and pipeline parallelism across Xinference workers through the built-in xoscar executor — with no separate Ray cluster to deploy or operate. This release completes vLLM V1 pipeline-parallel execution and improves pipeline scheduling and failure handling.
A stateless /v1/responses endpoint serves Responses-based clients, and prompt reuse finally becomes measurable.

No breaking changes from 3.x — upgrading is a straight swap. If you are coming from a release older than 3.0, read Migrating to Xinference 3.0+ first for the authentication, Web UI and container deployment changes. Engine-version and hardware requirements for each feature are in that feature’s guide.
What's New
Prefix KV cache sharing now spans vLLM, SGLang and MLX replicas.
Prefill and decode on different engines and different vendors.
Rebuild the engine while GPU weights stay resident; UID preserved.
Stateless /v1/responses with streaming, tool calls and cache-hit tokens.
